When planning a brand video, one question we hear often is: How many people should we interview?

Two people? Five? The entire leadership team?

There isn’t one perfect number. At Captivated Content, we determine the number of interviews based on the goal of the video, the story we’re trying to tell, and how much ground we need to cover.

Sometimes, less is more

For a typical 2–3 minute brand video, we often recommend interviewing two or three people. This gives us multiple perspectives to work with without overwhelming the viewer or bogging down the story.

With fewer voices, we’re able to create a clear narrative and give each person enough time to actually contribute something meaningful. Instead of jumping between eight different people in two minutes, viewers have a chance to connect with the people telling the story.

In a video like this, notice how a smaller group of interviewees allows the story to stay focused. Each person has a distinct role in moving the message forward.

When More Makes Sense

There are also times when two or three interviews simply aren’t enough.

We’ve produced brand videos around four minutes long that feature seven, eight, nine, or even more interviewees. For a larger company with multiple departments, locations, services, or areas of expertise, those additional voices can help communicate the true breadth of the operation.

More interviews can also add credibility. Instead of hearing one person tell you what’s great about a company, you’re hearing it reinforced by employees, leadership, customers, partners, or other people who have experienced it themselves.

There’s another benefit too: more people get their moment in the spotlight. For large organizations, featuring employees from across the business can make a brand video feel like a much more accurate representation of the company as a whole.

Compare this video to the first example. There are more voices and perspectives, but they’re serving a different purpose. The additional interviews help demonstrate the size, experience, and depth of the organization.

Start With the Goal Not the Number

Before deciding how many people should be interviewed for your brand video, think about what you want the audience to take away from it.

If you want a clear, easy-to-follow story that allows viewers to connect closely with a few key people, fewer interviews may be the better choice. If you’re trying to establish credibility, showcase a large operation, or represent several different perspectives, bringing more people into the conversation can make the story stronger.

Neither approach is better. The right number of interviews is the number that helps tell your story effectively.

Plan With a Purpose

Choosing your interviewees is just one part of planning a successful brand video. Who speaks, what you ask them, and how their perspective contributes to the larger story should all be considered before production day.

Whether we’re producing a focused brand story with a few voices or capturing the scale of a large organization with locations and team members across Southern Indiana and beyond, our goal at Captivated Content is the same: make every interview serve the story.

The right number of interviews comes down to the story you want to tell. If you’re ready to start planning a brand video for your business, reach out and let’s start the conversation.
